L’Historical Archive of Barcelona will exhibit for the first time a set of unpublished drawings made by a hundred Barcelona children during the first months of the Civil war Spanish. They can be seen from this Thursday until November 4.

The exhibition, titled L’Arxiu at war. The Casa de l’Ardiaca and the Reading Room for Infants during the Civil Waris curated by the historian Daniel Venteo and the librarian from L’Arxiu, Maria Messeguerwho discovered the drawings, kept for decades in a box of administrative documentation of the L’Arxiu, the Barcelona Institute of Culture (Icub) reports in a statement.
In 1936, after the outbreak of the war and with most of the schools closed, L’Arxiu set up a children’s reading room with the aim of alleviating the effects of the conflict on the little ones, a space that functioned until February 1937, when the bombings on Barcelona endangered the integrity of the children.
