In the middle of the debate on the limits of Artificial Intelligence, while we are witnessing the revolution that it is bringing with it in fields as disparate as healthcare, industrial, educational or artistic, a small pop-up exhibition reaches the heart of Madrid (GranVĂa, 46) to demonstrate that there is still a redoubt that remains impregnable and where this complex combination of algorithms that allows machines to emulate human intelligence is not enough: to imitate the beauty of nature.
He Espacio IE Art is an interactive proposal where the artificial and the natural merge. It is an initiative of Turismo de Canarias which, under the concept of Exceptional Islands (IE) wants to highlight the uniqueness of the archipelago in two ways: the identity and spectacular Canarian landscapes. Amazing photographs of beaches and cliffs, natural pools, star-studded night skies, ancient forests, canyons and ravines will parade before the visitor’s eyes… The challenge will be to distinguish between real images and photographs generated by artificial intelligence and answer the question: IE or AI? (i.e. Exceptional Islands or Artificial Intelligence?). The public will also witness how a state-of-the-art robot brings to life in real time a unique work of art, created through AI. A mural that is his particular interpretation of the characteristics that define the Canary Islands for travelers.

The spectacular nature of the Canarian landscapes is graphically captured through the game with Artificial Intelligence, which is capable of deceiving the eye with impressive creations. In contrast, the exhibition focuses on the authenticity of the nature of the archipelago in its different manifestations, from beaches and forests to dunes and volcanoes. With this, it is intended to convey the message that this destination is capable of offering places and experiences that technology is not capable of replicating.
In the tourism sector, artificial intelligence already makes it possible to plan travel routes with tools such as ChatGPT and it is also possible to apply ‘machine learning’ models to find out the behavior of tourists in a certain destination and predict, for example, where and when there will be more algomeraciones or where more resources are needed to promote a more sustainable tourism… In short, it allows you to better manage destinations. The possibilities of this type of technology are limitless. Or almost, because when it comes to the works of art of Nature, reality is stranger than fiction.
