Forest Fringe Satellites in Lisbon and London

13th January 2012

Forest Fringe begins the year with the announcement of two new projects: a microfestival in Lisbon and a guest stint curating work at the Gate in London.

In Lisbon, 17-19 February 2012, Forest will be collaborating with Culturgest to bring a host of Forest Fringe artists to Portugal, exploring unusual spaces across Culturgest’s remarkable home and filling them with performances, works-in-progress, intimate encounters and installations. The artists involved include Action Hero, Search Party, Kieran Hurley, Deborah Pearson, Tania El Khoury, Bryony Kimmings, Mamoru Iriguchi and Jenna Watt.

Then, 9-21 April 2012, Forest will be part of the Gate Guests season with a two-weel programme of work:

each night will be a miniature festival in itself, featuring a headline act alongside an array of talks, films, music and work-in-progress performances curated by the headline artist. The first week will be headlined and curated by the brilliant writer and storyteller Chris Thorpe, a founder member of Unlimited Theatre. Each night Chris will be telling a different story, by turns funny, harrowing and brilliantly absurd. In the second week you can see dancer Dan Canham with his huge Edinburgh hit 30 Cecil Street, a moving and lyrical evocation of a derelict theatre in Limerick in Ireland.

Royal & Derngate's Flathampton, Brighton Festival

So here we are, half way through May, and therefore half way through the Brighton Festival, which runs 4 – 26 May (although the Fringe is cheekily marching on till 2 June this year).

The Bangkok Ladyboys have taken up residence on Grand Parade, the Famous Spiegel Garden is sparkling away on the Old Steine, there’s a crashed plane apparently made out of withies and tissue paper sticking out of the ground next to St Peter’s church, a shipping container or two on the seafront, Brighton's taxi drivers getting into gear for their annual collective denial of the very existence of The Basement arts centre (Where love?
